No matter what you do in life, you always have to take the first step. It doesn’t matter if you are learning to walk or learning to ride a bike or taking that first job, you will always take a first step. You have to crawl before you can ever think about walking. Imagine going to a new job and just jumping in and doing the job before you have ever learned how to do it? It doesn’t work like that.
Many times on the show “Undercover Boss” the boss goes in to do a job but looks lousy at the job. Many people laugh and it is like all these employees expect him to do the job right the first time. I never get that part. I can remember all my jobs I took over the years, if any of the managers would have expected me to do everything right the first day then I would have lost the job.
It usually takes a few months to really get settled into a job where you can do it without thinking. No matter what you do, it is going to take some time. Anything worthwhile is worth doing poorly until you can do it well.
Talking about first steps, I can remember Lil Chris for the first time putting his weight on his feet while I was holding him and took one step. I was really surprised at the first step since he just put weight on his feet.
It was the most amazing thing. If you really think about first steps in life, looking at a baby is perfect because all they do is first steps whether it is being born, eating, crying or crawling & walking. Their whole life is all about firsts.
Can you remember the first date you had? Were you really nervous? What about your first kiss? I bet you had those butterflies? It’s ok to have butterflies, just make them fly in formation so that you can still do what you need to do.
Don’t ever stop life because of fear of doing something new. You should be always taking first steps all of the time with something. Living each day is a new start and keeping your spirit new refreshes your mind. You stay young when you are always doing new things.
When you get to the point where nothing in your life is ever new then life becomes boring. Life is a great adventure. You either live or you mentally die. Life is supposed to be lived out to the fullest not just survived like a lot of people.
Until you take that first step, you will never go on your journey. God can’t use you until you take the first step. The first step for God to use you is your step in faith that Jesus is your Lord. Once you do that then God will lead you into your purpose.
Whatever the purpose is, God will direct you but again, you have to take those first magical steps. Life is all about taking your first steps. Nothing can be created until the first steps have been taken. So many people sit on their butts just thinking about what could be instead of taking the first step and taking some kind of action. Any kind of action!
Action has to be one of the first steps or you will never accomplish anything. I can remember a few years ago the “The Secret” was such a big thing. It was all about you can think your life into existence. What you think will come to you. I always thought to myself they are leaving the most important ingredient to success out and that was ACTION!
Until one takes action life will never be lived. Action is what creates things. Actions causes you to make things work and not work. When the wrong action is taken you can usually correct it and move on but when no action is taken there is nothing to be right or wrong. You will just be there living someone else’s dream.
So in this life, make sure you take many first steps so that you can stay young at heart and also live the life that God has planned for you. God has great things for your life but until you take the first steps towards his plans, nothing will happen.
Ask God to help you see your purpose then give you the courage to take the first steps no matter what. Ask him to give you the strength to take all the action you need so that you can accomplish what God has in store for you.
Ask God to give you the wisdom to know when the first step is to plan and when it is to take action. When you know that, you can’t go wrong as long as you know God is with you.
