Have you noticed that every time you pick up the bible to read it you feel God nudging you? It’s because until the day we die we are supposed to become more and more like Christ. The only constant in life is change and either you are growing or dying.
None of us really like to change. Change makes us uncomfortable. We need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. If we are going to grow up in Christ, we are going to have to change everyday or we are just growing old in Christ.
So how do you change? You change by allowing your heart to be open to God’s word. Only then can you truly change. You also change when you are ready. You can try and make yourself change all you want but until your heart is in it your change will not last. By the way, not being ready is NOT an excuse not to change. God EXPECTS us to change!
You can only change yourself and not other people. You can make morality laws all you want but if the peoples’ heart isn’t in the change then the change will not be permanent. Yes we have to have laws in order to keep peace in our nation but remember no moral law will make the change God wants.
The Old Testament was all about laws that people had to abide in but Jesus still had to come to save us from our sins. If laws worked to keep us moral and doing the right thing all the time then God would not have needed to give his son Jesus to save us all. We all sin no matter what laws are out there.
Also remember with the laws, it was the moral police who killed Jesus? They were the ones who were all about moral laws. They got so hung up in their laws that the laws became their God. God said NOTHING comes before him and he means it.
It is when our heart changes that we then want to quit sinning. Will we be perfect? Of course not and God doesn’t expect us to be but as we grow more in Christ, when we fall we will repent RIGHT away instead of making excuses. When you catch yourself falling and repenting right away, that is when you know you are growing in Christ. People who aren’t growing in Christ will be the ones that excuse their behavior.
This is why God wants us to change everyday because we will never be fully perfect but by changing everyday we become more today than we were yesterday. We will be more tomorrow than we are today. Changing is a part of life and a part of growing up. I pity the person who at age 50 looks back on his life and says I am the same exact person I was when I was 20. That is a wasted 30 years of life!
Yes I said wasted because unless we are willing to open our hearts and change for God everyday, we are just wasting the life that God had for us. God has a purpose for each of us and unless we are changing we will never see that purpose come to pass.
God may be ready to push you into your purpose but he can’t yet because you have some past strongholds or your heart isn’t ready or you just don’t want to change. You say things like I am who I am and no one will ever change that.
If that is your attitude then God isn’t going to take you to your purpose until your heart changes. Why would he? Your heart needs to be at a point where it is open to change and open to correction from God. When he sees obedience like that, he then will move in because pride has moved out.
Now go out and change the world by first changing your heart! It all starts with changing you first then you see everything in a different light.
Ask God to show you the areas where pride has taken over. Ask God to help you open your heart so that you can hear what he wants from you. Tell him that you are ready and willing to go wherever he leads you no matter where that may be.
Now go out and do what he said to do!
