Is There an APP for That?

I was listening to a sermon when this thought came to my mind. Is there really an APP for everything? Don’t we wish there were? An App for communication? An APP for Love? An APP for Money? An APP for Happiness? Or the biggest one of all An APP for TIME!

Yes time is crucial. Time is killing our great country with everyone trying to keep up with the Jones’ and Pastors trying to keep up with other Pastors. Somethings got to give!

We are using our precious time for what? Does it really matter if you drive a BMW vs a Camry? Does it really matter if you live in a 4000 square foot home vs a 2500? Do you really have to take the most expensive vacation each year?

All these are perspective and I have no problem with people living a nice lifestyle, where the problems begin is when your family suffers for it. Daddy is never home, mommy is never home and someone else is raising your kids.

Parents not experiencing their kids first steps or playing with their kids in their time of need?

If we don’t change this as a country we are going to lose a whole generation. We are going to see a whole new generation being raised by others that don’t have our values and leads them in all kinds of directions. We are going to have a country where material possessions are above everything. Some people may say we are already there?

I want to believe that we aren’t quite there YET but we are getting close. I guess that’s the glass half full kind of person I am. I want to believe the best even when I am seeing the worst. We need to WAKE up before we get down this road.

Its like the song “Cats in the Cradle Song:

Cats In The Cradle Lyrics

A child arrived just the other day,
came to the world in the usual way,
But there were planes to catch
and bills to pay, he learned to walk while I was away
He was talking before I knew it and as he grew
he said I'm going to be like you Dad,
you know I'm going to be like you.

Chorus:
And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

My son turned 10 just the other day,
Said thanks for the ball now c'mon let's play
Will you teach me to throw, I said not today,
I've got a lot to do, he said that's ok
And he walked away and he smiled and he said
You know I'm going to be like you, Dad,
you know I'm going to be like you.

Chorus:
And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

He came from college just the other day,
so much like a man I just had to say,
I'm proud of you, won't you sit for a while
He shook his head and said with a smile,
What I'm feeling like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later can I have them please.

Chorus:
And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

I've long since retired and my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I'd like to see you, if you don't mind
He said I'd love to Dad, if I could find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking you Dad, it's been real nice talking to you.
And as I hung up the phone it occured to me
He'd grown up just like me, my boy was just like me.

This song represents everything I preach against. This song is where we are as a country. The lyrics are so true. Do you really want your son or daughter to grow up just like you? No time to enjoy life, no time for family, no time but just wasting life away?

What if your church needed someone for 2 full weeks because an emergency happened and you felt that God was telling you to go? Would your life fall apart if you gave that time? What if your spouse needed you or your kids? Could you take off for a few weeks if necessary without you going bankrupt?

Don’t get me wrong, There will be seasons where our life is out of balance but you should not stay there. When life is out of balance with time and something falls your whole world crashes but when you are in balance and something happens you can just maneuver things in your life so you can fill that need.

Time and family is my biggest passion. I do not like to see people running out of so much time that they can’t even live the life that God gave them. Time is everything. Time is way more important than money because we can always make more money but once time is used we can never get that time back.

Go and take your time back and watch God work miracles in and through your life because you are sacrificing things to be there for your family. God will multiply you if you do this. God knows how much of a struggle this will be for you but its well worth it in the short-term and especially in the long-term.
