A lot of people do not realize the power in self-talk. There is one person in our lives that we talk to more than anyone else and that is ourselves. We speak to us thousands of times a day and depending on the kind of self-talk, determines the kind of life you will live.
A little disclaimer here, am I saying everything you say positive will come to life? Of course not but the most positive you see things the more positive you will see in your lives. It is just a vibe that you put out to the world and people notice it.
How many times are you around someone really negative about life when all you want to do is leave? That person literally drains all the energy from you and you aren’t even the person saying all that. Now if its that powerful just being around it imagine how much more powerful it is when you say it from your own mouth?
Self-talk is going to happen anyway so you might as well start training yourself to speak the positive first. This isn’t saying that bad things aren’t bad. It is saying that even though bad things may be happening you will still speak life into your life and not death.
Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
As you see even the bible backs this philosophy up. Your tongue is that powerful but what do you do?
1) Monitor what you say and think for a week – This will be enlightening because you may think you are pretty positive but after you do this for a week you will know what the truth really is. You may lean more positive than negative in what you think and say but either way this gives you a base of where you are.
2) Read daily – You should take the time to read daily from different things. of course the number one place is the bible. That is a given but you should also find good positive mental attitude books to read also as this will help you build you back up.
I hear people say motivation doesn’t last so why bother doing it everyday where I have to say neither does bathing and that’s why we recommend it everyday. So just like bathing to clean your body, reading daily helps clean your thoughts. if you clean your thoughts you will change what you say.
3) Listen daily – Listen to something positive every day. Whether it is a sermon online or something from a motivational speaker. Whatever it is, listen daily and it will help share your thoughts too.
4) Focus on the positive in life – Here is a harder one for many people and that is to focus on positive side of things even while bad things are happening. You can do it though. I have seen people who have every right to have a negative attitude in life because of things out of their control who stand up tall and you would never know they are going through anything. Seeing the positive side of life not only helps you see things differently but also breathes life back into you.
5) Cross the negative out – As you start to think or say something negative, stop yourself right there and think how you can reword that in your mind to be more positive. For example there is something you want but you start to say “I can’t affod it” instead say “It’s great that I am working on me and because of that it will mean more to me when I can buy that”.
Did you see what I did? I changed it from saying you can’t afford to buy it to saying you will as you grow. maybe that doesn’t work the way I worded it for you but you get the idea. Just think of a different way to say things and that will change your life.
6) Checkup from the neck up – Lastly I would like to say to always keep track of what you think and say because as time goes you can easily fall right back into the negative side of things. Always give yourself a check up from the neck up.
I promise you if you will follow what I have said here, you can live a more positive life. The positive side of life isn’t just for special people, it is for anyone who decides he or she is going to be that way. We don’t just wake up in a good or bad mood, we wake up and make a choice each day whether that will be a good or bad day. The more you choose a good day the more good days you will have!
