Many times as we go through life, we get side-tracked and distracted from where we are trying to go. We sit back and ask ourselves if we need to hit that reset button? I do not care who you are; this will happen to you throughout your life because we aren’t perfect. Sometimes we may even find ourselves nowhere near where we wanted to be and said wow. In those moments, we have two choices, continue the same path or reset our life right there to a new normal.
In his book “Destiny”, TD Jakes says, “Think of your mind like a computer that occasionally has to be reset in order to perform optimally. When you reset an electronic device, it goes back to the default setting, but the default settings have to be changed for the device to get a new normal that yields optimal performance”. He goes on to say, “Likewise, sometimes your perceptions of how the world operates have to change to give you a fresh perspective on your circumstances”.
I recently had to do this myself. I was going down a path that I thought was right, but it wasn’t the purpose that God called me to. My wife could tell we were going the wrong way, but I would not listen. I had to learn after a year of going this way that it was not only hurting our marriage but also hurting me emotionally. You see I really thought this was the way we were supposed to go. So I justified it in many ways to make myself feel better. I allowed my ego to get in the way of God telling me to STOP. I came to a point where I almost didn’t recognize myself.
What was my wake-up call? Several years ago I wrote an article called, “Family Destroyers”. I recently re-read part 1 as it is a 6 part series and I was like wow that was a pretty strong article. As soon as I said that, I realized that I was stronger when I wrote that than I was at that moment. You see when I wrote that, to me that was normal thinking. I knew I had to do a reset at that point.
I knew that I needed to look at all parts of my life and reset the bad but still keep the good. You have to be careful that you don’t reset everything. Sometimes people stop everything in their lives when they only need to reset a few things.
Does your life need a reset? Ask God to help you reset the things that you need. Ask him to show you the areas that you are weak in and also to show you the areas of your strength. Ask him to give you the discernment to know the difference and to work on what you need right now. Ask him to help humble you through this process because ego will destroy what you are trying to do. Ego will justify, but God says to stay humble! AMEN!
