Finding Your Vision?

In a previous article, I talked about the idea of God’s vision being something that might scare you. This time, I want to focus more on finding that vision. I talk about vision a lot because I know the power of having a purpose from God. We’ve seen so much happen over the years by following where we believe He’s leading us, and it’s been amazing to witness. Sure, there have been ups and downs, but His direction for us remains loud and clear.

Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

That verse is powerful because it’s true: without vision, without a sense of purpose, we’re lost. When we first figured out where God was leading us, doors began opening toward that direction. It’s not an overnight thing. Vision for your life takes time, and executing it does too. Sandy and I first felt God nudging us toward marriage ministry six years ago, and we’re only now seeing things take off. It’s a process, and God often uses that time to refine and prepare us.

If pursuing the vision was easy, we wouldn’t need to rely on God, so why would He give us a vision that didn’t require Him? It starts with one step—the first step of faith. When you take that step, more become clear. You’ll start to see some doors close while others open.

Be ready to listen to God’s direction. He often reveals His vision in parts, like He did with us, over time, when He knows you’re ready to take the next step. You might not see the full picture until later in life, but every step brings you closer. It’s all about moving forward in faith, trusting the direction you believe He’s leading you.

If you’re looking for God’s vision in your life, here are a few questions to ask yourself: If you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you do for God? What issues in the world or in your community bother you deeply? What are your strengths right now? Answers to these questions can start to reveal the purpose God may be placing on your heart.

Each of us has a passion God has placed within us. Our job is to uncover what that passion is and where it’s meant to lead. Many people pursue dreams they’ve chosen without asking God if they’re on the right path. Don’t let that be you. Don’t let a passion go to waste if God has placed it there. Follow that passion, and you’ll get closer to the vision He has for you.

Ask God to help you discover His vision for your life. Ask Him for discernment to know if the path you’re on is where He wants you or if it’s a stepping stone to something else. Ask Him for strength to pursue the vision, no matter where it leads.
