I know so many people, myself included, who know what they’re supposed to do for God but choose not to. They keep putting things off, waiting until they feel “ready.” Here’s the truth: you will never feel fully ready. That’s not how God works. He doesn’t shove us into the lion’s den—He nudges us in, walking with us through every moment.
Many people believe they need absolute certainty before stepping into their calling. I don’t believe that’s the case. Think about it: if God came down and told you outright, would you need faith then? If every circumstance were perfect, would faith still be necessary? No, it wouldn’t.
God wants you to step out in faith right where you are. If you’re waiting for the perfect financial situation, you might be waiting forever—because God wants you now! I read something the other day that hit hard: “Delayed obedience is still disobedience.” Let that sink in. If you know you have a calling but keep putting it off, that’s disobedience.
Don’t get me wrong—I’m not saying you should quit your job and expect God to make everything fall into place. Some people do take that leap, and for some, it works out. But what I’m saying is to take small steps every day toward your calling. Maybe, for now, God wants you building connections and making introductions. Perhaps those connections will open doors when God’s ready for you to step through them.
Stepping into your calling isn’t just diving in—it’s a journey. Sometimes, callings come quickly, but more often, God is preparing you along the way. Every experience you’ve had up to this point can shape and prepare you for your ultimate calling. God will use your mess to create a powerful message.
Often, the things we try hardest to hide are the very things God plans to use to reach others. When we get so set on doing things our way, we can forget to make room for God’s way. Maybe our way could work, but God’s way is always the right way, whether we like it or not.
It’s time to step into your calling with that first step of faith. God isn’t asking you to take a giant leap—He’s asking you to trust Him and take a step. The process may start with small steps, which lead to bigger steps, which eventually lead to giant steps. And, in time, you’ll find yourself taking steps you once thought impossible.
Can some people skip steps? Sometimes. But taking too big a leap often leads to a hard fall, and it can take years to recover. The gradual process prepares you for the bigger steps, so when it’s time to take them, you can handle them.
So why not start today? Take the first step toward your calling. God will open doors for you when the time is right. Just because a door doesn’t open immediately doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path. Sometimes it means God is pruning you so that, when that door does open, you’re ready to not only walk through it but run!
Ask God for the courage to take that first step. Ask Him to help you move at His pace. Pray for discernment to know when to run, when to walk, and when to crawl. Trust that He’ll open the doors you’re meant to walk through, even if they seem small. After all, we are never too big for the little doors God places in our path. Amen!
