5 Biblical Lessons for 5 Years of The Chris & Sandy Show

Today marks five years since we officially launched The Chris & Sandy Show on January 3rd, 2020—my late mom’s birthday. We began this journey in her honor, and reflecting on it now, I see God’s hand guiding us every step of the way.

When we started, we moved full speed ahead, focusing on up-and-coming country artists. Just ten months later, the show evolved into a full-fledged entertainment platform. From artists and actors to authors, athletes, and CEOs, God continued to expand our reach far beyond what we imagined.

I recall a pivotal moment not long after COVID hit. A PR company reached out, offering six clients. One of them was Ana Cristina Cash, the wife of John Carter Cash. That interview was a turning point. Proverbs 18:16 reminds us, “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.” Indeed, that moment opened doors for interviews with Carlene Carter, Georgette Jones, Jenny Gill, and more.

As momentum grew, we dared to ask for bigger interviews. With live events on hold, many said yes. God was faithful to provide favor. Psalm 90:17 says, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”

Initially, the show was audio-only. Sandy was hesitant about video, but by October 2020, we made the switch. Our first video guest was Ally Brooke. That first attempt at video wasn’t perfect, but she showed us grace. Philippians 1:6 says, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” Despite imperfections, God continued to shape our path.

Over the years, we’ve interviewed incredible names: Brian Littrell, Sara Evans, Ed Asner, Brooke Burke, John Tesh, and so many others. Each guest brought new opportunities, and the whole experience felt like a testament to God’s provision.

In that first year, we completed 300 interviews. The second year brought 200, and by the third year, 100. Grief interrupted our progress when we lost my dad and Sandy’s mom within 90 days. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). That season was hard, but God carried us through.

Now, as we prepare to relaunch the show in 2025 with Doak Turner, we look forward with hope and anticipation.

5 Lessons from Our Journey

1) Embrace the Pivot
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
When the show transitioned from country music to broader entertainment, we embraced the shift. God often redirects our paths, and growth requires trusting His timing and plan.

2) Seize Unexpected Opportunities
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity” (Ephesians 5:15-16).
The PR company’s outreach was unexpected, but we said yes. God often brings divine appointments when we least expect them. Be ready to step into new doors He opens.

3) Be Bold and Ask
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).
We didn’t think bigger artists would agree to interviews, but we asked anyway. God’s favor often follows bold faith. Don’t let fear of rejection hinder your next step.

4) Push Through Imperfection
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
Our first video wasn’t flawless, but we kept going. Progress often comes through persistence. Trust that God perfects His work in you over time.

5) Give Yourself Grace in Hard Seasons
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Grief slowed our progress, but rest is part of the journey. God doesn’t expect constant productivity—He invites us to find rest and renewal in Him.

As we reflect on these five years, we hope these lessons encourage you in your journey. The road isn’t always easy, but with faith, perseverance, and God’s guidance, incredible opportunities await.

A Time for Reflection
Take a moment to reflect on your own journey over the past five years. What unexpected doors has God opened for you? How has He guided you through seasons of growth, challenge, or rest? Consider writing down the lessons He’s taught you and thank Him for His faithfulness. Remember, every step you take with Him shapes a beautiful testimony that can inspire others.
